Overcoming Fear Day 7

WEEK 2 DEVOTIONAL

JESUS CALMS THE STORM

One day he got into a boat with his disciples, and he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side of the lake.” So, they set out, and as they sailed, he fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water and were in danger. And they went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and they ceased, and there was a calm. He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and they marveled, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that he commands even winds and water, and they obey him?”

Luke 8:22-25

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT:

Jesus was sleeping. They were in raging waves, so I imagine the boat was being tossed back and forth. It must have been loud from the wind, the thunder, the men yelling to each other to be heard over the storm and yet, Jesus went on sleeping. When He woke up, He rebuked the storm, and everything became calm. Winds, water, everything obeys His voice!

PRAYER:

Jesus, next time that I am in a “storm”, that it looks like the “winds and waves” are going to overtake me, help me to look at You. Are You sleeping, then maybe I am afraid for nothing, maybe I can just rebuke the storm and it will calm. Are You interceding? Then maybe I need to intercede as well. You only did what You saw the Father doing. Help me to see what You are doing. Help me to join You.

Lord, I am in a storm __________________________(name the storm).

Show me where You are and what You are doing.

Will You speak to me about this storm?
